I was wrong about Personalized Search – SEOTpreneur News 51
Recently, I shared a video about what I thought were the first signs of personalized search on TPT.
Here’s the gist:
- Personalized search means two people see different results based on their habits—what they’ve bought, stores they follow, and other interactions.
- When I searched a keyword logged in, I got one set of results.
- Searching in Incognito Mode gave me a second set of results.
- Using a VPN from another country? A third, different set of results.
Sounds like clear evidence of personalized search, right?
… TPT is doing something unexpected
But then, a few TPT Sellers in the PRO community noticed something strange:
Refreshing the TPT Search page produced different results.
This wasn’t tied to being logged in or out, or even geolocation. Sometimes, when you refresh the page, you get different search results on TPT.
Here are some things we know so far:
- This glitch doesn’t seem to impact the first five pages of search results.
- Not all keywords are affected.
It seems random at first glance, but what we might be seeing is TPT experimenting with different algorithm rulesets.
I break it all down in this video.
Can you figure it out?
When you refresh the page on TPT and see different search results, is it truly random?
Or are there just a few specific result sets, like Set A, Set B, and Set C? It might look random, but maybe there are only a few possible outcomes!
What do you think? Hit reply!
Cheers,
Mike
