There are 14 million products on TPT – how do you stand out?

On July 20, 2025, the 14 millionth product was added to TPT.

It looks like this. Can you find the product number and the release date?

(If not, hit reply to the email I sent on Aug 27, 2025. That’s why you want to be part of the email community.)

On July 31, 2025, 14.1 millionth product was created. Check it out.

This means, in 11 days, TPT Sellers published 100,000 new resources.

That’s roughtly 9,000 products every single day.

So… Does your product stand out?

If you’re like many TPT sellers, you might think the answer is better TPT SEO.

And yes, SEO on TPT is different from Google SEO or ChatGPT SEO! But here’s the thing…

A lot of people believe:

➡️ You have to use all 80 characters in your title. (Wait, what?! You don’t?)

➡️ You need to find keyword niche unicorns – mythical keywords with higher search volume and lower competition.

➡️ You have to put your keywords in all the “right” spots.

But even with all that, some folks still don’t make it to page one.

So, what gives?

TPT is a Popularity Contest

Yup. Just like all search engines.

If someone types in a keyword and clicks on your product… boom! That’s a signal to TPT: “This is a good match!”

If they buy your product after clicking? That’s an even BIGGER signal.

The TPT SEO algorithm says: Move this one UP! 🚀

(How do I know this? Because this is called dynamic re-ranking in the developer manual.)

But what if people don’t click on your resource?

That’s a problem…

Let’s Talk About “The Art” of TPT SEO

Here’s what we need to ask:

  • 🎯 Does our product match what people are looking for? (Buyer intent)
  • 🖼 Is our cover and snippet eye-catching?

We can have the best lesson in the world – it won’t matter if no one clicks on it.

Here are some things to try:

  • Use a big font on your cover so it’s easy to read.
  • Put the keyword on the product cover. (Not for the algorithm – for humans! It helps them spot what they’re looking for. Sales psychology!)
  • Show, don’t just tell. Use product photography or mockups so buyers can see what’s inside.
  • There’s a certain look and feel to TPT product covers. Does your cover match your genre and grade level? (How would Dolly Parton create a TPT cover?)

Now, Let’s Talk About “The Science” of TPT SEO

Even if your product looks awesome, you might still rank lower than someone else.

Why? Because…

👉 TPT uses a secret SEO score.

No one knows the secret sauce formula, but recent sales (especially from the past 7 days) seem to matter a lot.

TPT puts products into “buckets” based on how relevant they are to the search term. Then it ranks them by SEO score.

(Can you get into the first bucket?)

So how do you boost that score?

Start the TPT Snowball Effect

If your product is attractive enough (i.e. the Art of getting to page one), then you need to get the TPT snowball effect rolling with recent sales of that product.

Although this can be done on TPT by going after lower hanging fruit (long-tail keywords), in reality, you’ll probably have to bring your own eyeballs to your product.

That means getting high-quality traffic from

  • teacher Facebook groups,
  • viral instagram reels,
  • your email list,
  • optimized Facebook ads
  • or wherever your ideal customer avatar hangs out.

Once you get a few sales, you start a snowball:

⬆️ You get sales
→ You start to rise in rank.
→ You get seen more.
→ You get more sales.
→ Which leads to a better TPT SEO score.
→ Which leads to higher position.
→ Which leads to more sales.

But be careful of the flip side! I call this the TPT toilet bowl effect.

⬇️ You don’t get sales.
→ Your TPT SEO score goes down.
→ Your rank drops.
→ Which means you get seen less.
→ Which leads to fewer sales.
→ Which means your TPT SEO score goes down more.
→ So your rank continues to drop.

WARNING: There is an exception to the rule. Here’s how to get to the top of page one – no work required.
